The Shoebox

Happy Monday Music Lovers,

Where did the warm weather go?!?  Here in Nashville we got a bit of a teaser to warmer days as last week we had highs in the 70s.  Now it has dropped down to low 50s, brrrr.  I for one want the warmth with the beautiful sun shining down upon the land.  You ever notice how sunlight greatly affects motivation and mood.  On a warm and sunny day I feel more productive for some reason.  Rainy days are not all that bad, but I would like a little less.  I recently had a loss in the family, which is why the song I chose this week tugs at my heart with the meaning behind it.

For this Music Monday, I chose “The Shoebox,” performed by Grammy nominee Chris Young.  It was a terribly rainy day in Nashville on Saturday so I couldn’t go for my usual jog in the wooded trail.  I spent the whole day cleaning my apartment.  That was when I stumbled upon the memory box my best friend, from PA, gave me last Christmas.  When I took it down off the shelf, I couldn’t resist taking the lid of to begin the journey into the past.  This has truly been the best gift I could have ever received.

Don’t forget the little moments

They’re the ones that mean the most

When the way home seems so far away

In the box there are all kinds of things and each holds a special moment in time.  Some of the contents include letters from friends while I spent my time over in Australia and now new letters as my life in Nashville unfolds.  Reading through the letters I smile from ear to ear because someone took the time to write me.  In today’s world where email seems to rule, it means the world to me to have a personal hand written letter from Mom, my best friend, and all my other amazing friends I have been blessed to have in life.

Look back on

A little window to the past

Just as Young describes it is a window to the past.  As I shuffled through the box more I found some old Valentines Day cards, a Chinese fortune, some ticket stubs from the amazing experiences I have had in Nashville, and a few pennies.  The pennies mean the world to me because if you have ever heard the expression ‘Pennies from Heaven,’ you will understand how much one little penny can be worth.

If ever you should ever doubt the blessings that you’ve had

The memory box doesn’t just serve a purpose of holding timeless treasures to me, it reminds me of the many blessings I have been given in life.  The handwritten letters are the blessings of the beautiful and amazing friends I have gotten to know.  The concert tickets are for the blessings of the music I enjoy.  The backstage passes or special event badges are a reminder of how hard work pays off to achieve dreams.  The newspaper write ups from College, the little fortune slips that make me smile, etc.  This list could go on and on.  Every piece is a blessing in its own unique way.

And don’t forget to fill an old shoebox

Fill that old shoebox with anything you like.  You never know when a rainy day will provide you with time to look back on the past.  I know I look forward to adding more memories as time goes on.

As always bloggers, until next time, keep those ears entertained.

Musically,

Chelsea ♫
