Never Let Go

Happy Music Monday,

I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones around, whether they be family, friends, and neighbors. I hope you know you are never alone in this world. I have been hitting the gym and hiking trails extra hard to work off all that good Thanksgiving food. I take true joy in the holidays because it is a time where there is just something extra in the air and it allows us to look back on all the great moments and great people we have in our lives.

The song I chose this week is very personal to me because this song is tied to a loved one who lost his battle to cancer in 2003.  It is estimated 7.5 million people die of cancer each year.  Scary statistic! I first heard this song that year and it came in my life at the moment I needed it most and it is one I play whenever I miss my Uncle Gabe.  For Music Monday, I chose “Never Let Go,” performed by Bryan Adams.

“Can you take what you need and take less than you give.”  I may have a bias opinion here, but I think all who knew my Uncle would agree with me on the note that he was one of the most selfless individuals you could ever meet in life.  He was there for anyone who needed him, with no judgment, a listening ear when you needed to talk, a warm smile when you had a rough day, and above all else, he was always willing to lend a hand.  He asked for nothing in return and did everything out of the kindness of his heart of gold.

“Could you close everyday without the glory and fame.  Could you hold your head high when no one knows your name.”  This line I like to personally dedicate to all the Firefighters, EMS workers, Police Officers, all branches of the military, coast guard members, the fallen of 9/11, and everyone who makes a difference in this world without asking for any recognition.   I have grown up around firefighters my whole life and it has always amazed me how they are willing to run into a burning building when everyone else is running out.  My Uncle was a firefighter and he was no A list celebrity that everyone knew his name after every life he saved.  There are individuals out there who sacrifice everyday to save someone else or protect our freedoms, but we don’t always get to hear their story. I have the highest admiration for those individuals.

“We say Goodbye, but never let go,” when someone passes we have to say Goodbye for the time being until we will be able to see them again.  However, even though we say goodbye, we never let go of the memories we have shared.  There is always a special place in our heart where we can always go to see our loved one again.  When I think of my Uncle Gabe it warms my heart and brings a smile from ear to ear.  Hold onto those memories and share them with others.

Until next time, keep those ears entertained.
